THE CITY TALK

YOU RECENTLY MOVED BACK TO BRAZIL AFTER LIVING ABROAD FOR MANY YEARS; WHAT DO YOU THINK OF SÃO PAULO NOW?
I see it as growing and changing everyday. I am so in love with São Paulo. So many different people and tribes which makes me think a bit of London. Everyone is so different and yet share the same city. I feel surrounded by great people, strong personalities, the new generation of 20-year-old girls is so cool. They are very inspired and have so many ideas all the time.

WHEN YOU WERE LIVING IN LONDON, WHAT WERE THE THINGS YOU WERE MISSING ABOUT SÃO PAULO?
Not a lot (laughs) since I loved London so much! Obviously my family. But when I was living in Paris I can definitively say what I was missing; the warmth of the people. You know, like just sitting at a café and talking to random people. In London it is different, people are so friendly and funny. Everyone is nice to each other, just like in Brazil. But I did miss the weather. For sure.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO COME BACK TO SÃO PAULO?
I didn’t have a visa anymore (laughs). But more seriously, I think I have a tropical heart. I feel São Paulo is my real home. But you know, I started to fall in love again with the city when I came back for two years, a couple of years ago. The simple fact that I had to introduce my home town to the (French) boyfriend I had back then, made me see it through different eyes.

SOMEONE’S FIRST TIME IN SÃO PAULO: WHAT SHOULD THEY PACK?
Any item you would take to a metropolis like New York. And don’t bring a fur coat (laughs). I’ve seen too many here.

BEST PLACE TO SIT AND WATCH PEOPLE PASS BY?
I like the Centro where you can observe the real people in small bars with great food. I feel Jardins is more like Europe.

A NIGHT ON THE TOWN?
I actually like to cook. I like to stay home and invite friends and talk for hours with good wine. I also love live music: piano bars and jazz music like the Jazz nos fundos in Pinheiros but I also like a proper electronic party like the Dekmantel festival.

FAVOURITE PLACE TO ESCAPE SÃO PAULO?
The beach! Nothing better than Barra do Sahy. Such beautiful nature outside one of the biggest city that is São Paulo, is amazing. The beauty of Brazil lies here…
