THE BEAUTY TALK

OBVIOUSLY WE WANT TO ASK THE BEAUTY QUEEN WHAT HER BEAUTY ROUTINE IS…
Oh my god! (Laughs). For my face it is very boring because I only use Joëlle Ciocco’s products. The basic of her philosophy is cleansing at night. I could be travelling, drunk, going to bed at 7am, I will always clean my face. I start washing my face with the Crème Emulsionnante which is a gentle cleansing cream that I do twice. Then I apply the Lotion Lactée which is a refreshing lotion followed by the thermoregulatory Lotion Hydrogel. For the contour of my eyes and my lips, I use the Intensive Eye Care. My final step is the Médiateur Oxygénation which is a very light serum that I apply on my face and neck. In the morning I have a lighter routine: first I use a toner, Lotion Aromatique, then I apply the Lotion Hydrogel and the Intensive Eye Care cream. I finish it off with the Mat Reverser which is an anti-oxydant treatment.
I take care of my hair but in a very “french girl” hair way. Once a week I do a scalp scrub using very natural shampoos like Christophe Robin or Rahua which is completely organic.
I exercise 3 times a week: muay thaï, pilates, running…

DO YOU TEST ALL THE BRANDS YOU SELL? WHAT IS YOUR PROCESS OF SELECTION?Absolutely! Most of the brands that I sell, I already know. For the others, I travel to find the best products. Every beauty trip I did was super well prepared and researched: spas, hotels, local hair trends. I go, I buy a lot, and I test. Since I opened the store, a lot of brands reach out to me directly. But even if I know some of them could be selling very well, if I am not convinced they are good enough, I don’t select them. I would never sell a brand I don’t like. It doesn't make any sense to me.

YOU DECIDED TO CREATE THIS BEAUTY HOUSE IN BRAZIL, KNOWN FOR ITS DEMOCRATIZED AND EXCESSIVE USE OF PLASTIC SURGERY PRACTICES. DO YOU FEEL THERE IS A MORE NATURAL TREND COMING BACK ?
Yes it is coming back or coming in. But really, I don’t judge any practice, as long as you feel good about it. Personally I’d rather do a lifting than a ton of botox. But everything is about balance. This is true for everything: food, sports, alcohol... I feel “anti-aging” is like saying “anti-dying”: it is absurd to me because not only does it give complex to people, but it is also obsolete because we are all going to age. The only thing that matters is to age well and to love yourself aging. Obviously I don’t like seeing a new wrinkle on my face and when I am going to get grey hair, I am not going to like it either, but it’s part of the process. I try to focus on “pro-aging” and aging well: the more natural and non-invasive, the better. But again, this is my personal opinion. The face massages that we do here work in a deeper level than any botox will ever be able to reach. The results are f***ing amazing.

COULD WE SAY IT IS “FACE EXERCISING”?
It is exactly that. You need to exercise not only your body, but also your skin. It is all about detoxification and oxygenation. And for the face you can add a third factor which is your capacity to keep hydrated. The cosmetics and the massages help to focus on all three.

WHAT PRODUCTS DID YOU FIND IN BRAZIL AND CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
Coconut oil! Brazil is amazing, you have all the best ingredients in the world.

WE WERE TALKING ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF FOOD ALSO. WHAT MADE YOU DECIDE TO BECOME A VEGETARIAN?
I became vegetarian for three reasons. The first one was spiritual: I couldn't put any dead and traumatized animal in my body anymore. The second one was as a support to our ecology: if I don’t do it when I have access to all the food I want, no one will. The third one is because unfortunately nowadays it is very difficult to find good quality products. Agro toxics and anti-biotics aren’t going to make me any good.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE BEAUTY TREATMENT?
"Le Grand Soin de Joëlle Ciocco". It is a deep analysis, cleansing and nourishing treatment that I do four times a year to evaluate my skin.

MOST VALUABLE BEAUTY ADVICE TAUGHT BY YOUR MOM?
Drink a lot of water!

ARE THERE THINGS YOU WOULD NEVER DO BEAUTY WISE?
Yes. I would never have an eyebrow epilation. I would never wear fake nails. I would never do a peeling: removing the layers of the epidermis actually makes you age faster!
